Academic article entitled ‘Reading the Drones: Working Towards a Critical Tradition of Interactive Poetry Generation’, exploring what I call ‘interactive poetry generators’ – hobbyist computer software designed to produce machine-generated and machine-assisted poetry – and how they can (and should) be naturalised and studied as objects of literary criticism. Most of the article focuses on one such generator, ‘JanusNode’, performing a close reading of its operations with reference to avant-garde poetries of the twentieth century, the phenomenology of Gaston Bachelard, and more.

Research first presented at the Electronic Literature Organization Annual Conference in Paris 2013, later awarded an N. Katherine Hayles Award for Criticism of Electronic Literature and published in French literary journal Formules the following year.
